Martian exploration instruments

Instrumentation of Mars exploration system

Since late 2003, various instruments have been developed byLISA to explore Mars and its satellites, in partnership with other laboratories of the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (IPSL). These are funded by the French Space Agency (CNES).

These instruments are based on techniques of analytical chemistry devoted to the measurement of trace gases. They are or will be embedded on space missions of various agencies space (Europe, USA, Russia)

Experience onboard the NASA mission MSL 2011 (departure 2011) - arrival on Mars : 2012).

Objective : achieve balance of carbonaceous matter in the soil of Mars

Experience on theESAPasteur/ExoMars mission (departure 2018 – arriving on Mars : 2019)

Objective : search for relatively advanced trace organic compounds, identify their potential enantiomer.

Experience on the Phobos-Grunt of RosKosmos, the Russian space agency mission (starting 2011 - arrival on Phobos ) : 2012)

Objective: identify the gases from thermal treatment of Phobos’soil, Mars satellite
