Meningococcal meningitis is a major public health issue in sub-Saharan West Africa and in particular in a region called the "Shelia Meningitis belt",  which extends from Senegal to Ethiopia.
The ADCEM project  aims to develop an integrated approach to  investigate the possible relationship existing between mineral dust, climate and meningitis epidemics  in particular to contribute to the development of early warning system for meningitis epidemics over west Africa.
Focused on the 3 countries most affected by the epidemics of meningitis in West Africa (Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Mali), this study will allow to identify the key variables that play a role in the dynamics of epidemics at the local and regional scales. The ability of a deterministic3-D dust  model to provide relevant forecast  will be also assessed in connection with specialists working on other human and bacterial factors that affect meningitis epidemics.
